meet Isla

Q: What are your muses?
A: My grandmother taught me to knit and sew on my Summer holidays, we would go and visit her in the north of Scotland and because there was not always alot to do or the weather would be unpredictable she would always do projects with me so it was really through her love of knitting and sewing that first inspired me. There are a quite a few scottish designers and crafters whose mediums are in felt and their work is also a great influence, a couple of them are: Tait and Style and Donna Wilson.

Q: How is your personal style reflected into the items you create?
A: I love color and pattern, but shape and form are also equally as important to. I like modern clean designs and when it comes to decorating my house or even buying clothes I also am attracted to items with the same qualities.

Q: Do you have an early memory of crafting/creating something?
A: knitting alot of scarves with my grandma!

Q: Is working with felt wool hard to learn? Whats your favorite thing about it?
A: I think it depends what your are trying to do with it, If your working with wool roving then you can dabble in either needle or wet felting, I needle felt all the the hair accessroies I make by hand from merino wool, their are some good books out there to get you started on the basic's of both. My larger pieces like the the purses, pouch's and pillows are all hand built from already pressed wool felt, then they are assembled and sewn. The possibilities of felt is endless!
