I don't deserve a Kindle

{photos via HERE - a new blog favorite, Cafe Cartolina}

For some reason I really want a Kindle.  However, I don't deserve one.  I NEVER finish a book.  I just am not a big reader -- or even a little reader.  I'm more of a once in a blue moon when the spirit hits me reader.  And a lot of times, that spirit doesn't last me through a whole book.

Here is what I am "currently reading" --
(as in, have picked up over the past few years & haven't finished but have good intentions to one day complete):

Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison
Let me be a Woman, Elisabeth Elliot
Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini
Her Fearful Symmetry, Audrey Niffenegger
Kisses from Katie, Katie Davis
3 Cups of Tea, Greg Mortenson & David Oliver Relin
Heaven is for Real, Todd Burpo
Shadow of the Almighty, Jim Elliot
A Praying Life, Paul E. Miller

Books I've "recently finished"--
(as in, devoured whole by some crazy aligning of the universe in the last year or two. obviously "recently" is completely relative)

Same Kind of Different as Me, Ron Hall & Denver Moore
The Noticer, Andy Andrews
The Time Travelers Wife, Audrey Niffenegger
Hunger Games 1, 2, & 3(duh), Suzanne Collins

So why do I want a kindle?  The same reason I keep buying new books.... which is... well I just don't know.  I like the idea of books.  I like the idea of reading.  I like the idea that one day I'll have the time and space (I like reading most when my house is really clean... and well -- it is never really clean) to read.  Here's hoping...

p.s. though you might not take the advice of such a lackadaisical reader, incase you might be wondering -- my most favorite book ever is Evidence Not Seen, by Darleen Diebler Rose.

p.p.s if you want advice from some "real" readers -- contact Much Love Illy & Hello Hue.  Those bloggin' chicks seem to be reading all the time. (Good for y'all!!)

  1. I'm about to convince you to get one... Hehe... And I've only had one for a week.

You and I are similar when it comes to reading. I am "currently" reading twelve books... Probably. And my kindle caused me to want to read again. How long will this last? I can't tell. But the ability to turns page with a click means I can read while feeding the babe, moving laundry, stirring a pot and much more.... I SO wish I'd had it when L was in the newborn-nursing-45min stage.

OH! And "let me be a woman" is one of my favorite books Ever. and shadow is great too... Oh and it's not on your list but passion and purity is what I consider a must read for teen girls. Dud you read it before you married David? I need to readier again now, so much rich stuff.

  2. I have a kindle and love it. I've been downloading a ton of free books every week, so if you get it then just download free books and then it won't be so much of a waste. :)

  3. I so love my Kindle. Oh my goodness I love it so much. I am an avid reader and can easily finish a 600 page book in two days. When I read, I read hard. I love my kindle more than I ever thought I could.

  5. I am just like you. I always have a hundred books started and almost never finish them. So I started making a rule. I only read 2 books a month. If they aren't finished by the end of the month I can't start my new ones until they are done! (Unless I just stopped reading them because I didn't like them :)

And I love my kindle fire. But more because it's a tablet than an ereader. Although I do download books when they are free!! That is a great perk. You can also "borrow" books from friends and check them out from the library all on the kindle.

  6. 3 Cups of Tea is one of my favorites, so inspirational :) Not to add to your reading list, but you'll love the sequel- it's just as great!
