Dream Big {Guest Post :: Teatime Thoughts}

Hi everyone! I'm Candice and I blog over at Teatime Thoughts. I am so excited to be posting here at Wild and Precious today; Blair's blog has been a favorite of mine for awhile now, and I was thrilled to hear of this opportunity!

As I was thinking of what I was going to write about, I came across this quote by Epictetus (quite the name, right?) that says

"First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do."

This got me thinking about the many amazing Olympic athletes and people who have accomplished great things. We like to say, "they're just gifted" or "right place at the right time". Perhaps that's part of some stories, but what you'll find in each one of their journeys to success is the fact that there came a time when they had to decide. There was no straddling the fence; they were going to achieve this certain goal, and nothing was going to get in the way of that. These were not small, fleeting daydreams, they were big, much bigger than themselves. Big dreams mean big sacrifices.
Are they worth it?
If this dream glorifies God.. Yes, absolutely.

I think that we tend to stifle our dreams because we're afraid of failure. What I've learned from experience is that failure is a moment of learning, not a roadblock, although it can become that if you let it.

A good friend of mine once asked me this:
What dream would you dream if you knew you would not fail?

It certainly got me thinking, and not of dreams like crazy superpowers of invisibility and laser vision (although that could be somewhat cool), but really, really big things that could make a difference in the world.

So, I ask you..

What dream would you dream if you knew you would not fail?

Dare to dream big. You are a dreamer.

Erwin McManus puts it this way, "Dreaming with your eyes open is about living life to the fullest and enjoying God and having him enjoy you. It's about getting God into your soul, your heart, and your head, and letting him show you the dreams and plans he has for your life. When and infinite God comes to dwell in in a finite being, dangerously beautiful things begin to happen. It is here where you become indomitable. The fire within you becomes an eternal flame that cannot be put out."

I have found it helpful to write out my goals and dreams on a 3x5 index card and place it in an area where I'll see it everyday. This way I am reminded to dream big, and begin to take steps in the direction of accomplishing them.

What are you waiting for?
Go ahead and dream!

Feel free to drop by to say hello or share some of your big dreams with me!  :)

xoxo,
Candice

  2. Wise and inspiring words. I feel a shift happening in me right now and this is just the sort of nudging I need to keep pushing forward. Failure is really just not learning from something that appears to be a mistake.
