The Bump

{me at 15 1/2 weeks}
The bump...it takes some getting used to.  I love it.  It is fun.  But I tell ya what, it's a little strange... and only getting stranger.  I'll be completely honest with you: from a body image stand point I have to say, at least in this early stage of "could be baby bump or could be beer belly," sometimes it's a little hard to tote.  I've never been bumpy and it's very strange to not be in control of this situation.  And I know this sounds selfish, conceited, and bad-potential-motherish, but I'm just being real with you.  First pregnancy = the biggest transition period I think I have ever faced.  It's a lot to get used to.

I love my bump.  I do.  I'm ecstatic to be a mommy.  However, as the tangible symbol of all things changing in my life, sometimes I take out my pregnancy hormones on my growing tummy.   But the silver lining, as my waist line continues to disappear, is the glorious little one that God is knitting together inside of me.  It is so incredibly humbling to see how God is already using this little one to point me to himself -- to say to me, "it's not about you," "don't let your body be an idol," "stop putting yourself before others," "stop and savor the world around you."

So I love this little (but growing) bump.  It's a great reminder to me of God's love for me and his will for my life.  I want to enjoy this season of growing tummy, aching breasts, raging hormones, and other pregnancy unmentionables.  It's all a gift.

    I was just chatting with a friend at church yesterday who is 14 weeks along and feeling exactly the same way as you are - she's excited but uncomfortable and realzing her clothes aren't fitting anymore. :)

  6. I love it! So perfect.

    And I'm glad I'm not the only vain one out there! It's really frustrating when you look plain old FAT and get thicker sideways before growing out front. But it DOES get better when it becomes a real baby bump, have faith! You'll love it more and more with each day :)

  28. There is an awkward stage is pregnancy where it's hard to tell if you just put on weight or are pregnant. Once that belly pops a bit more, people start holding doors for you and smiling every time they see you. Strangers will share in your delight!

  31. Yes, it was an adjustment to get use to the bump. My husband would say for the first 6 month i was in shock of being pregnant. But it does get easier, sounds weird but as the bump grows is it better and when u feel that little guy or gal moving, it is all worth it. Oh, also the 2nd pregnancy is much easier.

  33. having never been pregnant myself, i can't imagine what you are going through, but i know that sometimes it's weird knowing that you don't have full control over your body. you have another human being in there for goodness sake!
