mantles

I love fire place mantles.  They don't even have to be a working fireplace -- or even a fireplace at all.  Wood, marble, vintage, new... there is something so classic about them & I think they totally rock.  I don't have a fire place.  HOwever, I have considered thrifting a mantle and just putting one up against a blank wall.  Something to aspire to...

Do you have a mantle? Real fire place or fake? What do you have displayed on it?

  1. I love the idea of a mirror over the mantle, it always opens up the room. I don't have a fireplace, or mantle, but at my parents house my mom always has something new up there whenever I'm home. I can't wait to have one of my own :) Great inspiration!!

  5. We finally put a gas fireplace in our living room, with a gorgeous mantle. I'm so excited to have one. My sister has had a mantle without fireplace before, and you could totally make it work. There are so many things you can display in and on it. Ours has a painting and a few black-and-white family photos on it. Very simple.

  7. I love mantles as well!! I am always watching the DIY network to see how they fix them up at low-cost. It makes me swoon.

I'm also loving that first picture, with the bright wall and white chandelier!!

  9. i love all of these. I couldn't choose just one! We have a real fireplace that we don't use because it's always hot here in NC and our tv is above it so we don't really pay attention to whats on the mantle which is nothing really ha

  10. Blair, my lovely mantle has my hubby's large flat plasma mounted above it... seriously? He's so good to all of us I guess it's all about compromise and really he asks for so little. I would love a mantle in my bedroom..... doesn't even need a fireplace to go along with it! xo

  11. I love how mantles automatically tie a room together. And a mantle during Christmastime just makes me giddy! I need to go decorate mine!

  15. I love that second mantle picture. Ours is in a room we barely ever use and so it is boring and never gets changed or spruced up. I need to work on fixing that!

  17. I've been wanting a mantle too! Unfortunately, I don't have ANY space to put a mantle right now, but it's such a cozy piece! I'd display any of my many collections atop the mantleplace and maybe stack logs underneath it...one day :)

  22. Sadly I do not have a mantle. Had a double sided fireplace in the last house so I got double the fun but not a one here. I like your idea of thrifting a mantle for the holidays but I don't want to store it the rest of the year. Perhaps there is a "mantle in a box" out there somewhere.

  25. I always wanted a house with a fireplace and now we have a house that has 2... well 3 technically :) I love my mantle. We were just decorating tonight and hanging up stockings and had a fire going. It was so cozy. Check out my lovely mantle if you want. I actually posted about it earlier this year. It is quite unique:

  26. I love the mantel with the snowflakes. So cute! At my home in California I have a real mantel and we decorate it with pictures, candles and things like that. At school in Seattle, I'm in an apartment and don't have a fireplace or mantel, so I make due with my credenza (:
