Q: What do you love most about vintage?

A: For me, vintage is about being transported to another time and place. You catch of whiff of your Grandma's house, the feel of her mugs that you drank hot chocolate from, the way her nubby daisy afghan felt. I also love that things were once made to last, to be used and treasured and passed on to the next generation. We are such a throw-away society now. I wonder if "Vintage" will even exist in 30 years!

Q: How is your personal style reflected in your store?

A: A lady in my church once described me as "interested in everything." That is a pretty good description. It may seem like I stock anything and everything, but I am truly get a kick out of everything I offer in my store, just like I am genuinely interested in all the kinds of people who purchase my items.

Q: How do you find/choose what you make available in your store?

 Is it hard sometimes not to keep things for yourself?

A: I am ALWAYS looking. It drives my family crazy. I know every thrift store manager in a 10 mile radius and they all know me. I also have become acquainted with all the estate sale companies. Because I also make mosaics, all of these folks keep a look out for me for broken and chipped china. I get a feeling about certain garage sales...stopping when I am already late to something else, only to find a Spode plate or Cashmere coat that was just meant for me and the shop. I tell my friends what to look for and they call me when they think they have found something I might want. I don't think I am ever NOT looking for goodies to add to the store.

As for keeping things...sometimes I just keep things for a while and then when I am sure that I can live without it, I will add it to the store. Sometimes, though, I just know that I am just never going to part with something. I just found a wind up Seth Thomas clock that bongs on the half hour. It amuses me. And it matches the wood on my piano. I can't see myself parting with it ever. I never EVER sell family pieces.

Q: Do you wear a lot of vintage yourself?

A: When I can find some vintage jeans and t-shirts, that would be great! But for now, I have shoes, purses, and jewelry that I wear often. My house if fully decorated with vintage and I use a lot of vintage appliances because they are made so well. My vintage vacuum and toaster have lasted so much longer than the new ones I bought at Walmart. My husband calls me a chronological snob, but I just like things that are dependable.
