Favorite two Halloween costumes ever? – Glenda the Good Witch of the North, 2nd Grade & Elphaba, 2009. Are you seeing a pattern here? I love me some Oz!

I wish I had some more pictures from my 2nd grade costume. I loved it so much. I remember watching my mom make it and how in awe I was. She put tiny mirrors and sequins all over it to make me reflect light. The crown was made out of contact paper with glitter and gold paint in between the layers. I felt so awesome that night. My sister was Dorothy. A funny thing I remember about her outfit is that she forgot to put on one of her socks – all night she had on one little white lace sock on one foot with her little ruby keds and the other ankle was bare. All the pictures are too funny/cute… again, I so wish I had more to share.

Last year began my obsession with Wicked. I saw it twice in one week. After seeing it as part of a surprise date with David, I went back the next weekend and stood in line to try to win the “wicked lottery.” And wouldn’t you know it – one of my best friends won and we got front row seats. So a few weeks later for Halloween, I bought the official MAC green makeup that the real broadway Elphaba wears and made David be my Fiero. I took this costume very seriously – even painted the inside of my ears. After SEVERAL showers that night, the next day at church I still had one of the girls from the youth group inquire about the slight green tint on my face and the green gob in my ear! But it was worth it. I LOVE me some Wicked.

This year – I’m almost ashamed to admit… we aren’t dressing up or going to any parties. We’re packing up and going camping. Yes, camping. Have I ever really been camping? No. Is it gonna get the coldest it has yet to get this year? Yes. Am I excited? You bet!

Have a safe & super fun weekend!
I’d love to hear about your plans or what your favorite Halloween costumes are!

  8. NOW This is Awesome!! I used to love the Wizard of Oz & someday I will get to see Wicked. For 2nd grade you did a pretty darn good Glenda!! =)

My favorite costume was Elvira. I had the hair & did her make-up & found a similar dress. I also did Marie Antionette too one year & had a fake head. It was so cool!!

  13. I absolutely LOVE dressing up for Halloween! In recent years I've really gotten into wearing wigs- they totally transform you. My favorite costume as an adult was a few years ago when I went as Bride of Frankenstein and wore that big striped beehive wig. This year I'm going to be an Egyptian Mummy Queen.

When I was a kid, my favorite costume was a Wonder Woman costume my mom made for me. It had a cardboard crown and wristbands she spray painted gold, and white go go boots. I really thought I was THE Wonder Woman!

  25. You look beautiful when you were in 2nd grade as Glenda and beautiful last year as Elphaba! I have to say, I love the music from WICKED! I'm lucky enough to work with a lot of the Broadway team when they are in LA looking for talent reading with all the actors and it is always so much fun! I hope you had a very Happy Halloween this year too!
