Where I Work

A few blog friends have inquired about where I work so I thought I would offer a glance into the beauty of Siloam Family Health Center. These are a few of our faces:

Siloam is a faith-based, volunteer-supported clinic for people with no health insurance and limited resources. Although all of us on staff do sign a statement of faith in Jesus Christ, all are welcome to receive care. No one is turned away. Last year we had more than 19,000 patient encounters, 89% of whom came from outside the United States. 64 different languages were spoken within our walls.

We are the first health care that refugees encounter when entering the United States, and they are coming from all over the world. Spanish is the number one language spoken here, followed by English and then a mix of Arabic, Burmese, Farsi, Amharic, Kurdish, and Vietnamese. Siloam offers both behavioral health and pastoral care to all our patients, and prayer is an integral part of every day.

I have the privledge of working as the Volunteer Coordinator -- coordinating 450 active volunteer doctors, interpreters, nurses, and support volunteers. Although sometimes I whine and complain, I love this job ministry.
