glinda

wicked
Favorite two Halloween costumes ever? – Glenda the Good Witch of the North, 2nd Grade & Elphaba, 2009. Are you seeing a pattern here? I love me some Oz!

I wish I had some more pictures from my 2nd grade costume. I loved it so much. I remember watching my mom make it and how in awe I was. She put tiny mirrors and sequins all over it to make me reflect light. The crown was made out of contact paper with glitter and gold paint in between the layers. I felt so awesome that night. My sister was Dorothy. A funny thing I remember about her outfit is that she forgot to put on one of her socks – all night she had on one little white lace sock on one foot with her little ruby keds and the other ankle was bare. All the pictures are too funny/cute… again, I so wish I had more to share.

Last year began my obsession with Wicked. I saw it twice in one week. After seeing it as part of a surprise date with David, I went back the next weekend and stood in line to try to win the “wicked lottery.” And wouldn’t you know it – one of my best friends won and we got front row seats. So a few weeks later for Halloween, I bought the official MAC green makeup that the real broadway Elphaba wears and made David be my Fiero. I took this costume very seriously – even painted the inside of my ears. After SEVERAL showers that night, the next day at church I still had one of the girls from the youth group inquire about the slight green tint on my face and the green gob in my ear! But it was worth it. I LOVE me some Wicked.

This year – I’m almost ashamed to admit… we aren’t dressing up or going to any parties. We’re packing up and going camping. Yes, camping. Have I ever really been camping? No. Is it gonna get the coldest it has yet to get this year? Yes. Am I excited? You bet!

Have a safe & super fun weekend!
I’d love to hear about your plans or what your favorite Halloween costumes are!

Country Chic Wedding

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketskiphopkins

You might remember a couple months back when I posted my sweet friend, Lauren's (aka LaLa's) country chic engagement pictures -- I finally have remembered to post some from the wedding.  Skip Hopkins was the photographer and was A-MAZING!  Picking just a few of these photos to share was way difficult. But you can see more on Style Me Pretty!  Love you Eric & LaLa.  Thanks for letting me a part of your special day!

staycation
{Shelby Bottoms Park, taken from my bike}
{one} Thanks to everyone who wished me a great staycation.  It was indeed great!  I highly recommend taking one.  Just as restful (if not more restful) than a actual vacation, and much, much cheaper.  When I got home from work the night my staycation was to begin, David had a surprise for me in the kitchen -- a new bike! I felt like the happiest third grader there ever was!  I rode around and showed my neighborhood friends my new green hybrid.  I named her Jupiter.  Riding a bike is so nostalgic.  I have such fond memories or riding around my neighborhood for hours with my sister and friends.  The days of elementary school were so fun and worry free -- I especially remember around this time every year building leaf forts for hours outside.

Reader Celebration :: Brooklyn Thread

brooklynthread

Up for grabs: feather earrings winner's choice of gold or silver

meet joanna, the fashionista behind the blog Lifestyle Bohemia and the jewelry shop, Brooklyn thread

Q: How long have you been designing jewelry? Why & When did you start?
A: I’ve always loved crafting and making things with my hands. I’ve been especially drawn to jewelry and accessories. BrooklynThread started as a hobby in March of 2009. I had a lot of design ideas in my head and once I started making the pieces, I couldn’t stop. After receiving many kind comments and positive feedback from customers, I decided to take it more seriously. I then developed my website. Most people around me have corporate jobs so I never thought I could make a living while living creatively.

Q: How is your personal style reflected into your designs?
A: I would describe my personal style as easy, comfortable and natural. My wardrobe consists of mostly basic items - plain tees & tops, skinny jeans, leggings, which I then love to dress up by layering bracelets and/or necklaces. I design my jewelry so that it can be comfortable yet fun to wear.

Q: Do you have any interesting sources of inspiration?
A: My sources of inspiration include my love of vintage findings, interior design trends, printed textiles, urban culture, bohemian culture, old Brooklyn architecture, the 60’s and 70’s. The idea of someone in a far away place wearing one of my designs is most inspiring.

Q: If you could see your jewelry on any 3 celebrities who would you pick & why?
A: Sienna Miller, Keri Russell and Nicole Richie. I love how many of their looks consist of a plain outfit which they then accessorize in a way that looks comfortable & effortless, but still fashionable.

Q: In three words, why do you love blogging.
A: Inspiration, discovery and friendship.

Reader Celebration :: much love, illy

ily

up for grabs: a $20 gift certificate to this super fun shop!

meet ilene, the super cute gal and designer behind the blog and shop, much love illy, and one of Wild and Precious' lovely monthly sponsors

Q: When and why did you decide to open an etsy shop & start blogging?
A: I decided to open up my shop back in November 2009. It took me about a year to make that decision. One of my best friends kept tell me I needed to. We would have art dates every now and then, and she would be working on orders while I was painting or something else. Then Renegade came to Chicago and I found the place to be both inspiring and intimidating - but it helped me to make that big step. Though I had a wonderful full-time job, I realized I needed more of a creative outlet. Much Love, illy filled that void for me.

As for blogging, I started that to keep in touch with my family and friends. Then as my shop grew, I started to blog about my new designs and then also used my blog as yet another creative outlet for me, whether to keep tabs on online fashion finds. I've always loved to take pictures so the blog also became a kind of photo gallery for me.

Q: What are the inspirations for your shop?
A: Things I see in the every day, fashion trends and colors, and florals

Q: In three words, why do you love blogging?
A: Creativity. Community. 'Cause-I-love-it. (heheh.)

Q: Name 2 celebrities you'd like to see one of your hairpieces on and tell me why you picked them.
A: Oh, fun question! I'd love to see Zooey Deschanel because I already admire her taste in fashion so much and feel like her vintage-look would showcase the handbeads so well. and then Kristen Bell who is just such a cutie and makes anything look good! I love how happy go-lucky she is - and I think she too would sport the Much Love, illy pieces well.

Reader Celebration :: Moonbeam Wishes

moon
Up for grabs: 5 sets of Alice in Wonderland Stationery!
{details here}

meet megan - the sweet blogging gal behind moonbeam wishes and one of Wild & Precious' lovely sponsors!

Q: When and why did you decided to start an etsy shop?
A: I opened my little shoppe in February but I have been making cards all my life! I love receiving handwritten letters in the mail amongst the junk mail and unwanted fliers and I knew I couldn't be the only one! I wanted to make cards for the people who love to write handwritten letters to all the ladies and gentleman they know and love. I want to bring back snail mail and make cute stationary to write little love letters, thank you notes, thinking of you cards and just because mailings.

Q: What are your muses?
A: I can always find inspiration in everyday life. A beautiful sunset, a funny film, a great song, a page turning book, a day of gardening, talking to friends, magazine articles, window shopping, tv surfing, a relaxing walk at the beach or playing with my five cats. There is so much beauty to be seen in the world, and so many ways to convey that warm fuzzy feeling into a card!

Q: What is one craft that you have never tried that you would like to try your hand at?
A: I would really love to learn to sew! I have always wanted to make my own clothes and dance around in my one-of-a-kind creation!  I just need someone to take on the challenge to teach me..... :)

Q: Your etsy profile says you are a quoter -- what are your two favorite?
A: Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. said by the darling Judy Garland and If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought. by the wise Peace Pilgrim

Reader Celebration :: Vintage Butterfly 94

 Up for Grabs: a $20 gift certificate to Vintage Butterfly 94

Meet Vanessa, the fashionista behind Vintage Butterfly 94 and one of Wild&Precious' lovely monthly sponsors:

Q: What do you love most about vintage?
A: For me, vintage is about being transported to another time and place. You catch of whiff of your Grandma's house, the feel of her mugs that you drank hot chocolate from, the way her nubby daisy afghan felt. I also love that things were once made to last, to be used and treasured and passed on to the next generation. We are such a throw-away society now. I wonder if "Vintage" will even exist in 30 years!

Q: How is your personal style reflected in your store?
A: A lady in my church once described me as "interested in everything." That is a pretty good description. It may seem like I stock anything and everything, but I am truly get a kick out of everything I offer in my store, just like I am genuinely interested in all the kinds of people who purchase my items.

Q: How do you find/choose what you make available in your store?
 Is it hard sometimes not to keep things for yourself?
A: I am ALWAYS looking. It drives my family crazy. I know every thrift store manager in a 10 mile radius and they all know me. I also have become acquainted with all the estate sale companies. Because I also make mosaics, all of these folks keep a look out for me for broken and chipped china. I get a feeling about certain garage sales...stopping when I am already late to something else, only to find a Spode plate or Cashmere coat that was just meant for me and the shop. I tell my friends what to look for and they call me when they think they have found something I might want. I don't think I am ever NOT looking for goodies to add to the store.

As for keeping things...sometimes I just keep things for a while and then when I am sure that I can live without it, I will add it to the store. Sometimes, though, I just know that I am just never going to part with something. I just found a wind up Seth Thomas clock that bongs on the half hour. It amuses me. And it matches the wood on my piano. I can't see myself parting with it ever. I never EVER sell family pieces.

Q: Do you wear a lot of vintage yourself?
A: When I can find some vintage jeans and t-shirts, that would be great! But for now, I have shoes, purses, and jewelry that I wear often. My house if fully decorated with vintage and I use a lot of vintage appliances because they are made so well. My vintage vacuum and toaster have lasted so much longer than the new ones I bought at Walmart. My husband calls me a chronological snob, but I just like things that are dependable.

Reader Celebration :: Fern & Flora

Up for Grabs: the GORGEOUS headband featured above

meet Emily, the talented florist, designer, and blogger behind all things Fern & Flora:

Q: When did you start blogging and when did you decide to open your shop?
A: First came the shop, then came the blog. I began making hair accessories and as that endeavor began to grow, I decided to start a blog to promote my work, connect with other artists and have an outlet for all my loves like flowers, food, fashion, etc.

Q: What inspires your creations?
A: I'm a romantic for sure - hence the desire to create flowers adorned with vintage jewelry! I am a sucker for old things and find inspiration as I dig in boutiques and estate sales for time worn elements like vintage scarves, old postcards and jewelry.

Q: How would you describe your personal Style?
A: I feel like my personal style is always evolving. I spent two years working at Anthropologie which influenced my fashion sensibilities incredibly - as you can imagine! I love to wear neutrals with pops of gold like a chunky bracelet or earrings. I enjoy mixing things up with thrift store and vintage finds. I have two vintage dresses in my closet now, just waiting to be altered. I'm a sucker for boots too! My biggest score was finding a pair of caramel colored Frye boots at a thrift store for $5!!

Q: If you could see one of your accessories on any 2 celebrities, who would you pick?
A: Ooo. I would love to see Natalie Portman wearing one of my pieces. She is so elegant and down right gorgeous - especially when she had that darling pixie hair cut. Penelope Cruz is another woman I would love to make a piece for. I would have her wear her hair in a low, sweeping side bun with lots of wisps and I'd make her a big, lush flower clip maybe with some jewel tones in it! Swoon.

Reader Celebration :: Hello, Splendor

up for grabs: a special made "Wild&Precious" Necklace

meet one of my sweet blogging buddies, Beth - the gal behind Hello, Splendor blog and shop:

Q: Tell me about the inspiration behind your etsy store?
A: I have been making jewelry for years and at one point I even owned another jewelry business with friends, which I made the decision to let go of to make more time for my son. I loved blogging so much that I decided making jewelry was something I could do to honor the blogging community. I started my shop so that I could create pieces to name after some of my favorite bloggers. It remains a very casual business that I've used to make new friends and give little shout out to my favorite bloggers.

Q: How is your personal style reflected in the items you create?
A: I prefer to create simple pieces that are beautiful, delicate, and can be your everyday pieces. It reflects my style in that my pieces are functional and not frivolous.

Q: If you could see some of jewelry on any celebrity, who would you pick? why?
A: I'd love to see my piece on the set of Gossip Girl! Can you say Blair Waldorf or Serena van der Woodsen?

Q: Any favorite music you listen to or other customs you have when making jewelry?
A: I'm usually listening to upbeat, but low key tunes. You can't get too excited when you're dealing with the intricacies of jump rings... The Shins, Phoenix, My Morning Jacket, and Spoon are always good standbys.

Q: In three words, why do you love blogging?
A: Connecting. With. People.

Reader Celebration :: elliven studio

excited
Up for grabs: ruffle stationery set of 4 with kraft envelops

meet Julie, the oh-so-beautiful -and-creative gal behind this oh-so-beautiful-and-creative shop  and the blog to match - elliven studio!  julie is also one of wild & precious' lovely sponsors. :)

Q: What inspired you to start your shop?
A: A few years ago I spotted a bag that I really wanted, but I didn't like the fabrics that they offered. So I thought I'd try to make one myself, and was successful! I've always enjoyed fabric and sewing and I absolutely love accessories! I'd always be shopping for wallets, purses, etc, so it was the perfect combination for me....sewing accessories. I discovered Etsy shortly after through a craft blog and right away I knew I wanted to set up shop! It's been such a fun ride so far and I can't wait to see what the future holds!

Q: Have you always been a creator/crafter?
A: I've always been interested in crafting, ever since I was young. I would use my mum's sewing machine to whip up things or customize clothing. You could often find me in my room sketching designs out. Not too sure that any of those designs were runway worthy, but it was fun to do!

Q: Are there other things you'd like to create in the future and ad to your shop?
A: Absolutely! I'm in the process of designing some clutches (hoping to have them in the shop by the end of October, beginning of November) and I have a few new accessories sketched out that I'm waiting to make. I have so many ideas for new items, it's hard to stay focused at times, I just want to make everything at once!

Q: Is there a specific designer or crafter you look up to?
A: I wouldn't say that there is one designer/crafter that I look up to (although Martha Stewart and Amy Butler are unbelievably talented!) but I definitely get inspired and motivated by fellow crafters on Etsy, in magazines or on blogs. It's an amazing community!

Q: Any other sites or stores where we can find your work? Are you on twitter/facebook etc.?
A: I currently only sell my items on Etsy, but am hoping to start selling them through local shops. I am on twitter: @ellivenstudio I am loving twitter right now! It's so fun to be able to check in with people and to update everyone on how my day is going and how the shop is progressing!

Meet Christie, aka CB -- the oh-so-fun and beautiful gal behind the blog City Bird's Nest & the hip etsy shop of the same name and one of Wild & Precious' monthly sponsors!

Q: What inspired you to start your etsy store?
A: i started my etsy back when i was in college. i started painting my little chickies and everyone really loved them and around that time someone had mentioned etsy so i gave it a shot. i ended up giving away all my paintings as presents so i stopped for a while..plus school was ending and it was getting crazy...i started in full force a year ago i like selling my crafts in person but etsy is a great place!

Q: How is your personal style reflected in your creations?
A: i think my style has a little bit of funkiness and retroness (is that a word?) to it which shows through my color choices, fabric and overall aesthetic . i love contrasting bright colors together and for sure that shows in my handmade crafts :)

A: i think zooey deschanel for sure! i just love her style! i know for sure she would LOVE my bike embroidery as she is a fellow rider :)

A: oh yes! i listen to a bunch of stuff sometimes shuffle on itunes which goes through..marina & the diamonds, led zeppelin, motely crue, nazareth, gladys knight, al green, outkast, earth wind and fire and many many other new and mostly old artists...i can't craft and NOT listen to music...it's like having a peanut butter sandwich without jelly...one without the other is just plain insane!

Reader Celebration :: Studio JRU

jru1
Up for grabs: a $25 gift certificate to Studio JRU

meet Jennifer, the artist behind Studio JRU and one of Wild & Precious' lovely monthly sponsors:

Q: Tell me about the inspiration behind your art?
A: Just about anything and everything inspires my art. Nature is a big inspiration. Color. Texture. We are truly blessed with a world full of inspiration. Faith is a big inspiration in my work... the beauty of God's word. My art is something I want filling my own home and I hope others enjoy it as well.

Q: What is your favorite thing about crafting? what is the hardest?
A: I have always loved art and crafts, since I was a little girl. It was just in my heart. I love just being able to create. Whatever. However. Make a big fun mess and create! I am blessed to be able to do my art everyday. The hardest thing is cleaning up the mess. :)

Q: Outside of Studio JRU, what are some of your favorite things to do?
A: My husband and I moved into a house in the country a few years ago and we have been working on it ever since. Projects inside and projects outside. We love to redo old furniture. We have worked on many pieces for our home. Some things we have gotten from family and some pieces we have found at garage sales. I also love to garden and have made many different flower beds around our yard!

Q: Do you have any other websites, stores, where we can find you?
A: I blog at StudioJRU.
I have an ArtFire shop and an Etsy shop.
I am part of (in)courage from DaySpring and have art in their shop.
I on also on Facebook.

Reader Celebration :: Ande Monster

andemonster
Up for grabs: an old school polaroid camera!

meet Rachael, the beautimus blogger behind It's Simple Love, and the fashionista behind the vintage shop, Ande Monster.

Q: When did you start blogging and when did you decide to open your shop?
A:  I had a personal blog for a while until February of this year, that's when I started blogging for more than just my family. I started my shop Ande Monster Vintage in May of this year and I have truly loved it thus far!

Q: Where do you find your vintage lovelies? How do you decide what to put in your shop?
A:  I find my vintage lovelies anywhere from yard sales to antique stores to estate sales to vintage stores. I love the hunt. I guess I don't know how to explain how I know I want to put a certain item in my shop. It is really just the feeling I get when I see an item. A feeling of accomplishment and excitement. My eyes light up and a smile of victory sweeps across my face.

Q: From your blog, we can tell that you are an adventurer. Do your adventures inspire your personal style?
A:  I believe they do! For example, I have about ten pairs of feather earrings from Peru that I love to wear in the summer time. I like to mix in eccentric items I have bought around the world with more modern every day articles of clothing. It must have a balance.

Q: Other places we can find you (stores, twitter, etc.)
A:  Ande Monster Vintage is my online store. It's Simple Love is my blog. I have started a twitter but I have no idea if I will ever use it! So, to be continued on the Twitter stat.
